  Bonus find!!

  so, last night we were working in our garage, we want the whole garage as a banquet hall for our 4th blowout instead of only half like last year.

  going through boxes, i found the mother-lode of old jw books!.

  my old collection of lit!.

  Update - advice please?

  so, it has come to my attention that my jw girlfriends have been gossiping in that great inimitable jw way - they seem to believe that i am attending an alpha course and going to a new church (as if?).

  obviously one of my parents has spilled some baked beans and been indiscreet (just like that old faithful and not so discreet, slave....).

  not sure what will happen next but wondering where i stand with regards to any elders that were to get wind of this?

  hi everyone, i never was baptized but studied for a very long time before i finally got my sanity back and realized that although the individual jws for the most part were good people and doing what they thought was right the org itself was total b.s.

  anyway ive been lurking here off and on for a while and figured i would stop being lazy and register.

  so hello, i enjoy everyones posts and hope to be around for a while!

  Can someone explain Babylon the Great?

  i want to know what you guys believe "babylon the great" is.

  the witnesses told me its all false religions and is described as some woman on a beast with many heads and some chalice or something symbolizing all false religion.

  i think that was the jist of it.

  Michael, if you want a great bible that explains what most people with faith (except those in cults...) are guided to believe about the scriptures, get yourself a Life Application Study Bible (it will blow you away!). Here's the explanation it gives for Rev 14:8..
  
  "Babylon was the name of both an evil city and an immoral empire, a world center for idol worship. Babylon ransacked Jerusalem and carried the people of Judea into captivity (see 2 Kings 24 and 2 chronicles 36). Just as Babylon was the Jews' worst enemy, the Roman Empire was the worst enemy of the early Christians. John, who probably did not dare speak against Rome openly, applied the name Babylon to this enemy of God's people (Rome)-and, by extension, to all God's enemies of all times."
  
  So, there you have it. It's not just JW's who know their bible :-) . There's a lot of very clued up people of faith out there - just walk into a Christian bookshop and you will be overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of information there - it makes a mockery of JW's claim that the FDS provides spiritual food at the proper time (rather it provides extremely biased, mind controlling, patronising drivel much of the time - sorry Dad if you're reading this).

  Thank you so much everyone for your unconditional love and kindness (and humour). Everything you've all said has really helped. I couldn't wait to get up this morning to read all your posts - I just wish all my ex-JW friends could see them! They would see that there is an alternative universe with caring, spiritual, crazy, funny, amazing people and that they too could survive the painful process of leaving.
  
  All your advice proves to me the 'wisdom of the crowd' and I want you all to know I think you are awesome and I am so glad that all of continue to post and share your wisdom even though you probably have to keep saying the same kinds of things over and over again.
  
  Today will be a better day (even though its STILL raining in the height of summer here, silly me, its Wimbledon this week, off course its going to rain for 2 weeks solid.....). Hope you all have a good one.
  
  I keep reminding myself of how wonderful it is not to be preparing to attend a District Convention this year.....

  Hortensia - it's surreal that someone thinks it's ok to wait so long to kick you in the stomach again. I really wonder how they justify it to themselves, deep down in their subconscious they must know they will have to answer for their behaviour. Sorry for your pain and thank you for your sharing your thoughts.
